If you are a follower of TechBoilers, I recently made a video on Huawei's upcoming software update for some of its devices, this update will improve the GPU Performance of the device and hence is called Huawei GPU boost. Huawei GPU boost will start rolling on their high-end devices and ending to low-end devices of 2018.
On the other hand, Qualcomm has teased the launch of its unknown product, though according to the video launched by Qualcomm on their Weibo account shows that it might be a software update rather than a new Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC. They also released a poster, and it is all about the performance of the device. It seems like Qualcomm also might be launching a software update that will increase overall GPU performance. Though, there is no news on the supported chipsets yet other than Snapdragon 845 SoC which is their flagship chipset.
The chipsets for mobile devices are already really powerful, but now it's time to make them "efficient". According to Huawei, With this new GPU boost technology, they will be able to increase graphics processing efficiency by 60 percent and reduces SoC power consumption by 30 percent. But now you may be wondering that why wasn't this GPU boost available earlier?
Well, this is not a small update, According to Huawei, it took them 4-5 years of research, development, and implementation. And according to media reports, the commercial value of this technology is also said to reach $10 billion USD. Hence, it is not a small regular update but a new update that the chipset manufacturers were working on for years.
Now let's talk about the working of all this new "GPU boost technology" and how it works without the need for new hardware?
The performance of gaming is measured by frames per second and for each new frame CPU and GPU works. And with the new GPU boost update, a new intelligent algorithm will be applied to GPU driver that will tell the CPU and GPU what needs to be rendered in the next new frame. And not all GPU and CPU cores will be needed in this process and hence increase the performance with the battery backup.
Since Huawei makes their own chipsets called Kirin and doesn't use Snapdragon SoC. While the majority of other mobile manufacturers uses Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets in their devices, Huawei gave a strong competition to its competitor. And now it's time for Qualcomm to revenge this with their own GPU Boost which they are going to announce today and might be called Adreno Turbo.
And I will keep you updated with the latest technology news so be sure to follow me on YouTube and Facebook.
