Samsung Galaxy Fold & Huawei Foldable Phone | Significance Of Foldable Smartphones

Samsung Galaxy Fold & Huawei Mate X are now officially unveiled. Both the devices are yet to be released. Although specifications & pricing has been confirmed.

It's been a long time that we have known that Samsung is working on a foldable smartphone. We already have seen many working principles for this new upcoming new Samsung foldable smartphone. According to some sources, Samsung has been working on this foldable smartphone since 2013. And is speculated that Samsung will launch their first foldable smartphone in Q1 2019.

First, The unknown foldable smartphone from Samsung was called "Galaxy X" but now according to some leaks, this new foldable series will be called as "F". And hence we will call it the Samsung Galaxy F1. But here comes a competition for this upcoming Samsung device.

Huawei doesn't want to be left behind and hence according to some sources Huawei has also started to manufacture it's coming foldable smartphone. A recent report had confirmed that Huawei has partnered with China's BOE Technology Group to supply flexible OLED panels. The report also says that there will be limited units to fasten up the work and compete with Samsung. Huawei has a plan for manufacturing about 20,000 to 30,000 of flexible smartphones at the initial stage; As they want to be the first flexible smartphone manufacturer and get the attention of the industry.

On the other hand, Jeff Pu an analyst has said that Huawei's first flexible smartphone will be hitting the market very early 2019. Hence, Huawei is getting ready to manufacture world 1st flexible devices. These smartphones will change the smartphone market, as the Samsung Galaxy F is rumored to be priced between $1500 to $2000. Though, Huawei Honor Note 10 Rolls Royce Edition already costs about $1500 and is not foldable.

But now let's talk about the potential changes these foldable smartphones will bring in the market.

After the launch of the first foldable smartphone, Many mobile manufacturers will start working on foldable smartphones. My first prediction is that smartwatches will be replaced by these foldable smartphones. And in a year or so, These smartphones will be common. Just like what happened to notch designs. We thought it would be limited to high-end phones to feature a 19:9 aspect ratio panels, but now even $200 smartphones are getting those displays.
